Israel approves export of 40 percent of its gas

JERUSALEM (AP) ? The Israeli Cabinet on Sunday approved exporting 40 percent of Israel's newfound natural gas reserves, keeping a larger amount for local consumption than originally expected.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet the decision struck a balance between domestic needs and the concerns of the exploration companies that will drill for gas underneath the Mediterranean Sea.

"It ensures the needs of the citizens of the state of Israel, both by filling the state coffers with considerable funds from exports and by supplying the local market with cheap energy," Netanyahu said.

Last year, an advisory panel proposed exporting just over half of the country's gas, sparking protests by Israelis who said the country should keep most of its reserves to reduce energy prices at home.

Israel began pumping gas from the large Tamar field off its coast earlier this year. It is expected to begin exporting when a second, larger field goes online in 2016.

The consortium that has developed the fields, led by U.S. company Noble Energy, did not immediately comment on Sunday's decision. In the past, it has said it would have preferred the larger export levels.

Hebrew University professor Eytan Sheshinski, an expert on energy policy, said that despite the export numbers, he expected the energy companies to be satisfied with Sunday's decision.

"When the dust settles, they can live with this decision, and I think it didn't cross their red line," said Sheshinski, who headed a committee that gave policy recommendations to the Israeli government in 2010 on taxing natural gas exports.

Sunday's decision reserved 540 billion cubic meters of natural gas for the domestic market. Netanyahu said that amount would supply Israelis with natural gas for at least 25 years, a figure that Sheshinski said was largely accurate.

Earlier in the month, Environment Minister Amir Peretz said he wanted at least 600 billion cubic meters set aside for local use.

Last week, Netanyahu said that Israel seeks to earn $60 billion over the next two decades from the exports.

Guns of Icarus is one the best and the most thrilling multiplayer games that delivers real co-op and the most aggravating experiences.

On its deck, most have a role to play. Some will have to man its guns, steer the hulking bird and take necessary action when objects catch fire and alas go to hell. When individuals slack off or work haphazardly, the lives are over. In spite of few glitches and frustrations owing to inconsistent crewmates, there is still a level of satisfaction that occurs from handling an intense battle with the ships held together by chicken wire and duct tape.

Different Duties performed by Gunners, captains and engineers

From scrappy vessels to the flying sluggish fortress, every airship you choose features a distinct visual design, maneuvering and the deck layout. Duties performed here are categorized into three classes that will help in defining your role better. Captains have to indulge in maneuvering the ship while in battle so that gunners get great shots right from their position, making the orders as required, scouting the enemies to mark and flying the airship. But if you are a crappy captain you will earn yourself the ire with the possibility of spurring the mutiny. All the gunners in the scene are specialized in hot leads, pumping rockets and jetting fire into enemies. The Engineers here use handy tools like hammers, fire extinguishers and wrenches to rebuild and fix stuff that is destroyed when you are bombarded.

While duties of engineers, gunners and captains are entertaining stuff in their own rights, it?s all focused but very limited in scope. For instance, it hardly takes any time to get through different properties of each class, after a series of stages and you will realize and wish that you had more content to deal with.

The limitations?

Right now, raking up in the class does not unlock anything or even have a major impact on the character. With different objectives around every stage, most multiplayer games are the same and the tiny choice of map locations are very well designed and are distinct visually.

Guns of Icarus does a great job in shooting the excitement of airship crewing in the motoring combat above the clouds. The rough edges demonstrate work in progress which is much more than visual bugs, finished games and the glitches around. The awkward actions are jarring, considering how polished and beautiful the game feels and looks.

Not considering proper tutorials to demonstrate how the systems and gameplay functions getting acclimated to different roles is slightly puzzling from the moment it starts However, a positive sign is that developer Muse is working full-fledged to improvise the game and increase content to make the game a better one, give greater experience and also get involved better. That is more fun but one would think that there is a long distance to be covered before the game reaches its final potential.

The final verdict

This game has a lot of attractive elements that few other rivals can match. It feels unique, very refreshing and gives a co-op experience. But in spite of the impressive execution and visual beauty, the game drags a bit and tests your patience.

Blog: Is Mobile Gaming Really Gaming?

As mobile gaming as grown in popularity, there has been a growing rift between those who play games on mobile devices, and those who play "real" games. I first realized that people made this distinction when the creator of Angry Birds claimed that consoles were dying, and wanted people to stop using the term "casual" games.

This all boils down to the simple question of "what is a gamer?" Sadly, it's also incredibly subjective. My definition may be very different from your own - and how can we agree whether the guy playing Angry Birds for hours on end is a gamer if we can't agree on what we're arguing about?

So what could a gamer be? From my experience there are a handful of popular viewpoints on this.

• Someone who has been playing video and computer games regularly, and seems likely that they will continue to do so. Usually it's someone whose primary entertainment medium is video games. They may watch movies or hang out with friends, but if they had their way the majority of their time would be spent gaming.
• Someone entrenched in the gaming culture. They know the lingo, they bond with other gamers, they stay up-to-date on what's happening, etc. These aren't just people who sit down and play Call of Duty for a few hours; they're the ones with a Triforce tattoo, a framed ticket from Comic-Con, or a Super Mario Bros ringtone.
• Anyone who appreciates video games. Maybe they don't have the time to sit down with a 20 hour adventure game, or their game time is so erratic that it's easier to play simpler games. While they may not play often, they enjoy when they do play.

I've obviously painted some pretty broad strokes, and even omitted some groups entirely. While there may be those who play Warmachine or Magic and not video games, I've found that video games are a gateway hobby that leads to more enjoyable types of gaming.

But as you can see, it's hard to hammer down an agreeable definition. I've seen criticisms of mobile gaming ranging from lack of story, not hard, shallow gameplay, bad graphics, not expensive enough (what?), no controller or mouse/keyboard, ?etc. But the problem with that is that you can apply that criteria to many popular games as well.?

Games like Call of Duty and Halo, while possessing a single player story, could sell games solely for the multiplayer. That's because the "hardcore" gamers play it for the competitive side, while some enjoy it for the story. When I'm shooting an enemy because he's standing on a flag in the streets of an African village, there's really no story there. There's an essence of story (local militia vs. foreign army), but nothing more elegant than birds getting revenge on thieving pigs.?

Or what about games that aren't there for their difficulty? Games like Fable and Skyrim have great stories, but their difficulty is either non-existent or incredibly arbitrary. They aren't designed for a challenge, but around what you can do in the game. You can die, and there may be some tough areas, but for the most part your goal isn't to survive but to explore the world and enjoy the story.

I don't want to nit-pick, but my point is that not all games have all aspects. A game can have a great story but low content, or offer a high learning curve and terrible graphics. Sometimes you can squeeze most of them in to a game, and sometimes you can't. Yet as long as they're playing these games on consoles or PC, we call them gamers.

Why isn't the same true of people who play on mobile devices? Games like Chaos Rings or Infinity Blade have stunning graphics but rather simple controls. The games are difficult and satisfying, so why does the screen size matter? Or what about games like The Walking Dead that were huge hits on consoles and were "basic" enough to be translated to mobile devices?

It seems to me that a new breed of gamers has been created, and we don't know how to treat them. Whether its a sense of elitism or just being protective of our hobby, we criticize those who want to identify themselves as gamers without owning a single console/PC game. Someone can have a high score in Angry Birds, or has beaten the entire Zenonia series, and yet we give them a derisive snort and turn back to playing Borderlands. Instead we should welcome what they bring to the table - an escape for those who want to game, but don't have the time or money to keep up with it.

My view? I say anyone who enjoys gaming is a gamer. I don't care where you do it, or what you do it on. If you're spending your free time collecting pointless things, getting invested in a fictional world, competing against humans or AI, or just saving pixelated princesses, you're okay in my book.

Louisiana man, 36, accused of killing teen rapper

WINNFIELD, La. (AP) ? Police in north Louisiana say a 36-year-old man is accused of killing the 18-year-old rapper known as Lil Snupe in an argument that broke out during a video game at a friend's apartment.

A news release says Winnfield police got a warrant Friday to arrest Tony Holden of Winnfield in the death of the rapper, whose actual name is Addarren Ross of Jonesboro.

Ross died Thursday morning at an apartment in Winnfield. He had been shot twice in the chest.

Holden could not be reached Friday. The phone at the only listing under that name was not answered.

Ross had recently signed a recording deal with the Meek Mill's Dream Chasers label.

Police describe Holden as a convicted violent felon who should be considered armed and dangerous.

FDA approves Theravance's lung drug for wider use

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Theravance Inc's antibiotic lung drug to treat a type of bacterial pneumonia affecting hospitalized patients, particularly those on ventilators.

The drug, Vibativ, will reach the market in the third quarter of 2013 for its expanded use. The drug is already approved in the United States and Canada to treat bacterial skin infections.

The disease, also known as nosocomial pneumonia, is a serious lung infection as patients, particularly those on ventilators, often cannot fight the infection.

The regulator said on Friday that Vibativ will be prescribed only when alternative treatments are not suitable and the expanded use is to treat only bacterial pneumonia due to staphylococcus aureus. (http://link.reuters.com/hez98t)

Vibativ is already approved in Europe for the treatment of adults with nosocomial pneumonia.

Theravance's shares were up about 2 percent at $38.25 in after-market trading.

The shares closed up 10 percent at $37.5 on the Nasdaq following a Daily Mail's market report that GlaxoSmithKline is lining up a $55 per share bid for Theravance.

Plane with wing walker crashes at Ohio show; 2 die

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) ? A plane carrying a wing walker crashed Saturday at an air show and exploded into flames, killing the pilot and stunt walker instantly, authorities said.

Dayton International Airport spokeswoman Linda Hughes and Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Anne Ralston confirmed the deaths to The Associated Press.

The crash happened at around 12:45 p.m. at the Vectren Air Show near Dayton. No spectators were injured.

The show has been canceled for the remainder of the day. The names of those killed weren't immediately released, but a video posted on WHIO-TV showing the flight and crash identified the performer as wing walker Jane Wicker. A schedule posted on the event's website also had Wicker scheduled to perform.

The video shows the plane turn upside-down as Wicker sits on top of the wing. The plane then tilts and crashes to the ground, exploding into flames as spectators scream.

"All of a sudden I heard screaming and looked up and there was a fireball," spectator Stan Thayer of Wilmington, Ohio, told WHIO.

Another spectator, Shawn Warwick of New Knoxville, told the Dayton Daily News that he was watching the flight through binoculars.

"I noticed it was upside-down really close to the ground. She was sitting on the bottom of the plane," he said. "I saw it just go right into the ground and explode."

Wicker's website says she responded to a classified ad from the Flying Circus Airshow in Bealeton, Va., in 1990, for a wing-walking position, thinking it would be fun. Her full-time job was as a budget analyst for the Federal Aviation Administration, according to her website.

She told WDTN-TV in an interview this week that her signature move was hanging underneath the plane's wing by her feet and sitting on the bottom of the airplane while it's upside-down.

"I'm never nervous or scared because I know if I do everything as I usually do, everything's going to be just fine," she told the station.

Wicker wrote on her website that she had never had any close calls.

"What you see us do out there is after an enormous amount of practice and fine tuning, not to mention the airplane goes through microscopic care. It is a managed risk and that is what keeps us alive," she wrote.

In 2007, veteran stunt pilot Jim LeRoy was killed at the Dayton show when his biplane crashed and burned.

Organizers were presenting a trimmed-down show and expected smaller crowds at Dayton after the Air Force Thunderbirds and other military participants pulled out this year because of federal budget cuts.

The air show, one of the country's oldest, usually draws around 70,000 people and has a $3.2 million impact on the local economy. Without military aircraft and support, the show expected attendance to be off 30 percent or more.
